The flight of the space shuttle Enterprise over Manhattan on a Boeing 747

One of my favorite photo series. It captures the space shuttle Enterprise flying directly over Manhattan, mounted on a Boeing 747, which was used to transport it to JFK Airport so it could become part of the permanent exhibition at the Intrepid Museum on the New York waterfront.

You can spot the museum at around the 7 o’clock position: a pavilion for the shuttle was later built on the ship’s deck, visible slightly to the right of the Concorde aircraft that I’ve written about before.
