Poster House in New York

Poster House in New York

The Poster House in New York City is the first museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to posters. It features authentic works of art with powerful messages. The museum is young (opened in 2019) and small, but very atmospheric. Fans of movie posters and advertising will especially appreciate it.

History

Poster House was founded in 2015 and opened to the public on June 20, 2019. Its logo was designed by Paula Scher of the major design firm Pentagram.

The museum space, which formerly housed an Apple repair shop called Tekserve, was redesigned by LTL Architects and Lumen Architecture.

Collection and Exhibitions

The museum’s collection includes works spanning the period from the late 19th century to the present day. When Poster House opened in 2019, it contained approximately 7,000 posters from 100 countries.

Exhibitions at Poster House are themed and change every few months. Examples include:

  • An exhibition dedicated to the works of Alphonse Mucha, one of the most important poster artists of the Art Nouveau style.

  • Exhibitions on the USSR, environmental crises, Japanese design, film posters, and more.

In addition to exhibitions, the museum organizes educational and interactive programs, such as design sessions, workshops, and First Friday events.
