Renderings of Two World Trade Center (WTC 2) in New York

New renderings of the future Two World Trade Center (WTC 2) have recently been unveiled, along with news about its anchor tenant. Foster + Partners and the developer Silverstein Properties announced that 2 World Trade Center will become the headquarters of the financial company American Express.

The new images reveal a stepped supertall (55-story) skyscraper rising to 373 meters (1,226 feet). Terraces are distributed throughout the tower’s volume, and the renderings also showcase a three-story-high lobby. The building will accommodate up to 10,000 employees and will be fully dedicated to American Express office space.

This tower is the final component of the World Trade Center complex, which includes the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, One World Trade Center, Two World Trade Center, Three World Trade Center, Four World Trade Center, the Oculus transportation hub, and the Perelman Performing Arts Center.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and be completed in 2031. With the completion of this tower, the rebuilding of Ground Zero will finally be concluded — 24 years later.

As a reminder, in 2020, following disagreements between development partners, Foster + Partners replaced Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) as the architect of the skyscraper. I have written many times about projects by Foster + Partners — for example, they built Spaceport America, restored one of the most beautiful Apple Stores, Apple Tower Theatre, and completed the JPMorgan Chase tower in New York.
