Your Privacy Choices

This page lists everything you can turn off in NYC Museum Atlas, and how to have the records we hold deleted. Full detail on what the app collects is in the Privacy Policy.

Things we do not do

✓We do not sell your personal information, and never have.

✓We do not share it with third parties for advertising or any other cross-context behavioural purpose.

✓There are no advertising networks, analytics services or tracking SDKs in the app.

✓We do not build profiles, and we have no way to connect the app's records to your name, email address or Apple ID.

Because none of that happens, there is no “sale” or “sharing” for you to opt out of. What follows are the controls that do exist.

What you can turn off

Location

The app asks for your location only to show which places are near you and to start directions. Your coordinates never leave your iPhone. Turn it off at any time and the app keeps working — the map simply will not centre on you.

iCloud sync of your labels and filters

Your Visited, Interested and Hidden labels are copied to your own iCloud storage so they follow you to another iPhone. That copy sits in your Apple account, not ours, and we cannot read it. Switching iCloud Drive off for the app stops the copying.

Everything stored on the device

Deleting the app removes the labels, filters, cached listings and the random install identifier from your iPhone in one step. Nothing is left behind, and a fresh install starts with a brand new identifier that has no connection to the old one.

The records held on our server

When you mark a place, the label is also sent to us alongside a random identifier created on your device — no name, no email address, no contact detail. Write to us and we will delete every record stored under that identifier. Deleting the app does not remove them by itself, because we have no way of telling that an identifier has gone away.

To request deletion Email www@nyc-map.com with the subject “Delete my data”. Include your install identifier if you still have the app — it is the only thing that ties those records together, so without it we cannot tell which ones are yours. We reply to every request and confirm once the records are gone.

If you are in California

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. The first three are covered by the steps above and by the Privacy Policy. The fourth does not apply here: we neither sell nor share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Exercising any of these rights will never get you a worse version of the app — there is only one version, and it is free.
