The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a historic shipyard and industrial complex on the banks of the East River in Brooklyn. Once a major center of naval shipbuilding, it is now a modern industrial park home to hundreds of companies, innovative manufacturing facilities, and public spaces.

History
The shipyard was founded in 1801 and operated as a naval shipbuilding yard until 1966. During this time, some of the most famous US warships were built here, such as the USS Arizona and USS Missouri.

During World War II, the Yard employed up to 70,000 people, reflecting the site’s strategic importance. After the shipyard’s closure, the City of New York purchased the site, and its development was taken over by the non-profit Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC).

Today, the Brooklyn Navy Yard is home to approximately 550 companies vital to the New York City economy. They operate in high-tech manufacturing, design, food processing, and other industries.
The Yard also serves as a hub for professional education and employment: Building 92 houses a Career Center and exhibition space that showcases the Yard’s past and present, as well as assists people with job searches and training.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard offers regular walking tours of the historic docks, architecture, and businesses:
