On April 4, the largest street food festival in New York — Smorgasburg — returns, promising more than 70 food vendors with an incredible variety of cuisines from around the world.
Smorgasburg is the biggest street food festival in New York City. It started in 2011 as a project by the team behind Brooklyn Flea and has since expanded beyond the city. For example, Smorgasburg markets have also opened in Los Angeles (at ROW DTLA).
This year’s New York festival will feature 22 newcomers offering everything from Korean shaved ice desserts and Fuzhou-style dumplings to Mexico City–style tacos and Colombian grilled meat dishes. Interestingly, nearly half of the new vendors are either family-run businesses or founded by immigrants, bringing regional street food traditions from across the globe.
Some of the most mouthwatering vendors include:
- 82 Bowl — a Korean BBQ concept inspired by backyard grill parties, featuring bold flavors and quick modern bowls.
- Madrina Vegana — a popular vegan Mexican project with crispy tacos and rich traditional flavors.
- The Aborrajao — Colombian fried plantains stuffed with cheese and topped with sweet or savory toppings.
- Bom Bae — the energy of Mumbai street food with samosa chaat and customizable pani puri.
- Chenzi — rare Fuzhou street cuisine in New York, including chewy potato dumplings made from a family recipe.
- Rogers Burgers — a favorite from Flatbush known for smash burgers with Caribbean influences.
- Secondz — large flaky puffs and bao packed with bold Southeast Asian flavors like rendang and chili crab.
- The Purple Cup — Brazilian street food using ingredients from the Amazon, with a completely gluten-free menu.
The festival launches on the first weekend of April. Save these dates and locations:
