The Edge observation deck in New York City is one of the most thrilling and one of the newest attractions in the metropolis, rapidly winning the hearts of both tourists and locals. It offers stunning views of the city, making Edge a perfect spot for those who love watching the sunset with an incredible panorama.
In addition, Edge features a restaurant and one of the boldest attractions in the United States — City Climb, a walk at the height of the 105th floor with the opportunity to lean out over the void.
How Edge Was Created
The Edge observation deck is located on the 100th floor of the 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper. It is one of the key elements of the private development project Hudson Yards.
The skyscraper itself was completed in 2019, and the Edge observation deck opened to the public in March 2020.
Edge was designed by the architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox. Thanks to their original concept, the observation deck literally protrudes from the building’s main façade, creating the sensation of floating in the air for those who dare to step out onto it. The platform consists of a triangular glass terrace with frameless panoramic windows and a glass floor in the center. Particularly striking are the angled glass panels, where visitors can take impressive photos while standing literally “on the edge.”
What You Can See from Edge
Visitors to Edge can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views. On a clear day, you can see:
- Empire State Building
- Central Park
- Statue of Liberty
- The Hudson River
- George Washington Bridge
- Even the distant outskirts of New Jersey
Sunset is considered especially impressive: the evening light paints the city in warm tones, and when the lights come on, you are treated to a stunning nighttime view of New York.
Entertainment and Experiences
In addition to the observation deck, Edge offers several unique experiences:
- City Climb — an экстремальное восхождение along the exterior of the building. It is the highest open-air point in New York, where visitors, secured with harnesses, climb to the top of the skyscraper. An adrenaline rush and a memorable video are guaranteed.
- Glass Floor — a glass floor that lets you look straight down at the city beneath your feet. One of the most popular photo spots.
- Sky Portal — an augmented reality area where interactive panels provide information about the landmarks visible from the deck.
- The Peak — a stylish restaurant and bar with panoramic views, perfect for relaxing after your visit and enjoying signature cuisine.
City Climb — One of the Boldest Attractions in America
City Climb is one of the most extreme attractions at Edge (tickets must be purchased separately in advance).
At a height of 365 meters above the city, you are invited to test yourself and do what seems almost unbelievable:
- Walk along an open ledge without railings
- Climb a narrow staircase to the triangular spire of the skyscraper
- At the very top platform, overcome your fear and lean backward and then forward, suspended by a harness at approximately the height of the 105th floor
Safety measures are impressive even for the most anxious visitors:
- You are secured with two separate cables attached to a track along which you can move, meaning you cannot step aside or pass another person
- All carabiners are additionally locked with plastic seals that are removed only at the end
- You are dressed in a special suit and required to leave all personal items in a locker, followed by a metal detector check
- Rings and earrings are taped for extra safety
- You are asked to take a breathalyzer test to confirm you are completely sober

Pros and Cons

➕ Both indoor and outdoor areas allow you to take your time and enjoy the sunset
➕ The tip of the platform offers one of the most dramatic photo opportunities in the city
Disadvantages:
➖ The main views face south and east, and since the deck is located near the Hudson River, the perspective is slightly offset from the city center
➖ The tip of the platform is the most popular photo spot, and you may have to wait up to an hour
