An interesting new feature has appeared in both Uber and Lyft: PIN codes for rides.
Now, when you request a ride, you may receive a unique PIN code that you must tell the driver before the trip can begin. Without the correct code, the driver cannot start the ride.
My guess is that this helps protect both sides. It prevents overly creative drivers from starting trips before the passenger has actually gotten into the car, and it also makes it more difficult for passengers to later claim, “That was not me.”
As far as I understand, drivers can choose to require PIN verification for all of their passengers, making it a standard part of every ride.
