In New York City, some residential buildings have a fun end-of-season tradition: before outdoor pools close for the winter, they open them up for the residents’ dogs for one last swim.
It’s already too cold for people to use the pool, and the water is going to be drained anyway, so the final swim of the season goes to the dogs — who normally aren’t allowed in the pool.
