In New York, there are around 1,500 galleries. They all have one thing in common that nobody thinks about because it is too obvious: a door.
Behind that door, there is often a long corridor, while inconvenient opening hours create an additional barrier for many people. They may walk past a gallery hundreds of times a year and still never go inside.
OOW® is a project that simply removed the door and cut a window into the wall. In other words, it is a gallery window in New York.
One artwork (or, less often, several) is displayed in a street-facing window for two to four weeks. At night, the window is illuminated. At the same time, a storefront window is the most compact format in the gallery business in terms of rental space and the only one that operates 168 hours a week.
What began a year ago as a bold experiment with a touch of humor has now evolved into a network of 24-hour public art windows specializing in contemporary art and art objects. The project currently has three locations in New York.

Overall, the project feels very New York: in a city where everyone is constantly rushing somewhere, OOW allows you to encounter art without even stopping.
