A production is called a Broadway show only if it meets both of the following criteria:
- The theater has more than 500 seats
- The theater is located in the Theater District near Times Square or, more precisely, is one of the 41 Broadway theaters in that district, with one exception: the Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center.
If a theater has fewer than 500 seats but more than 100, the production is called an Off-Broadway show, even if the theater is located in a different part of the city.
If the theater has fewer than 100 seats, the production is classified as Off-Off-Broadway.
